I don't generally like a lot of people knowing whats going in my car and I sure as heck don't put out a lot of pictures. Not because I am JDM-mad tyT3 "can't peep under my hood." But because I don't want some gangsta' wanna be breaking into my home trying to steal my setup. I am VERY well armed and don't want to clean someones brain matter from inside my home. Plus, I'm sure there would be paperwork and I hate paperwork.

But this forum is, more or less, exclusive. And since that is the case, not thousands of people will be viewing it like VADriven (a forum I'm not a fan off) and VA rides (don't EVEN get me started). Before I go into that I just want to give a special shout out to CNC Engine Dynamics. These guys are the ultimate shop. They care about their costumers, they work with your budget, their work is not like anyone is VA (see the pictures) and they even went as far as to help me with a court case from a previous machinist that ruined my first block. How she stood last week.

After priming the engine I noticed a leak coming from oil feed inlet of the turbo so I ripped the turbo off replaced the adapter (which apparently had the wrong threads) and took a few more pictures

New Turbo setup.

Turbo on left is the previous turbo, I made around 400 AWHP on it @ 24 psi.
Turbo on right is the new monster Holset H1E (HX40 family).

This sucker (get it. Sucker.... cause it's a turbo) would be good for over 700 AWHP with E85, meth injection or race gas.
But I am going pump gas for now... hoping for 500 AWHP. Will do Meth injection later on down the line.

So I found some motivation to get back to work on the motor. Mounting this Behemoth of a turbo has given me some SERIOUS issues. After doing some research I found that there is no way around it. I have to cut the front motor mount to make room for the -10 AN oil drain lane. I cut it until I could mount the turbo into the manifold. But then again ran into the issue that the oil line itself can not be mounted. So I am going to have to cut it some more..... ARG!

So then I tried to re-cut and reassemble the oil drain line with out motor mount and am now question weather I got the right adapters for the job. I just want to take a quick break to mention my favorite tool: The Koul Tool. I have this tool for -6AN, -8AN and -10AN lines. It takes me about a minute to put together a stainless steel line now. I just love it... check out the video.



The problem is the oil drain line has a 45 degree elbow in the adapter and a 90 degree kink in stainless steel line. I believe this will cause the line to become restricted and not drain at the rate I need it to, blowing out the oil seals on the turbo. This is a common problem when installing a Holset turbo on a DSM. It's the reason why I have a restrictor in the oil feed line.

What about using a 90 degree elbow there instead of the piece of hose??

You really don't want a 90 degree anythingin the drain line. I'm gonna see if I can get a 45 degree -10 AN fitting...

Back has an LSD. The T-case should hold the power just find and Front LSD would be optimal, but is really best for corners. It would be best to have closed differentials all around for straight line power.

Pretty much. Some people build a street car that will have good manners at the track.

I am building a drag car that will have have manners on the street. The turbo is capable of 9s, but if I got that fast then I will be looking at getting a shoot and cage, which I don't want to do.

Anti-Lag and Launch Control are actually two separate functions.

Launch Control = raises RPMs to a predetermined level then reduces fuel injection (most often by using the cars fuel cut) to stop the RPMs from going any further

Anti-Lag uses the injection of fuel direction into the exhaust system before the turbo. The Heat of the turbo/manifold cause the fuel to ignite. The explosion makes a pressure wave that pushes air past the turbine system. This keeps the turbo spooled during engine braking and in a lot of drag cars at the time. However, this absolutely destroys turbos.

Tried to tackle whats left of the engine build. This turbo oil drain line is driving me nuts. I cut the -10AN SS line and tried to piece it all back together.... no go. Still to big. And I only have about 1/4" of hose left. I'll try again on Friday.

UPDATE:

Well I've been hard at work. I finished up the engine on Saturday. Last night I got the engine into the car. There is still a lot of work to do and I just realized that my new intake manifold. Interferes with the battery. So it won't be done by then, but I will keep on chuggin! I was hoping on having it done by local Toys for Tot cruise. But without a battery, I don't see that happening.
